There are so many different types of exercise, but if asked to categorize them, people often lump them into three categories. The first is cardiovascular exercise. This is any aerobic exercise that puts your lungs and heart to work. The second is strength-based exercise, which includes weight lifting and other exercises focused on making your muscles stronger. The third is stretching, which focuses on elongating muscles and increasing flexibility. Most exercise programs include a little of all three. However, there's a lot of room for variety here. When you think of a personal trainer, you might picture someone who stands nearby and offers instructions and words of encouragement while you work out at the gym. Many trainers certainly fit this description, but you'll also find that some trainers will physically help you when you need it. It can be nice to have your trainer assist your workout in various ways. Not only will this feel encouraging, but you'll get an even stronger feeling that your trainer is keen on helping you to reach your fitness goals.

In-home physical therapy is performed in your own home, so you don't have to leave your house to go to a physical therapy clinic. If you have had surgery or some type of injury, you may be in need of physical therapy and you may need to go to a facility for this to be done. At-home physical therapy may be a better option for you if you have issues getting to the therapy clinic or you are unable to move about easily.

When you take a women's self-defense class, you can expect to learn a number of techniques that you can employ to keep yourself safe from an attacker. Once you've learned the fundamentals, you'll actually get to put what you've learned into practice by physically engaging the instructor. There's no need to worry about hurting them, as they'll be wearing a padded protective suit over their entire body. Being able to practice with the instructor is critical to feeling confident about your ability to defend yourself in a real-life scenario.

While it can be fun to use the treadmill and elliptical trainer at your local gym to improve your cardiovascular fitness, it's always useful to have some equipment-free exercises in mind that you can try. You'll often see other gym members working on their cardio without the use of equipment. All you need is an open space on the floor. Many people use mountain climbers as a form of cardio. This simple exercise, in which you essentially get into a plank position and then move your legs as though you're running, improves cardio and builds muscle.

Lunges are an excellent body-weight strength training exercise that you can do at the gym. This simple exercise, which involves taking a step forward, lowering your body until your front thigh is parallel to the ground, and then returning to an upright position, builds strength in several muscle groups. Through dedication to this exercise, you can expect to strengthen your leg muscles and glutes. A lot of people find that the weight of their own body provides enough resistance during lunges, but you may eventually decide what you wish to increase the resistance.
